European Languages Day Monday September 26th 2022
The European Day of Languages is observed on the 26thof September, as proclaimed by the Council of Europe on 6 December 2001, at the end of the European Year of Languages, which had been jointly organised by the Council of Europe and the European Union. Its aim is to encourage language learning across Europe. This year Ireland holds the Presidency of the Council of Europe.
It provides an opportunity for schools to celebrate all languages and to highlight the importance of language learning. Many schools have used innovative and engaging ways to celebrate the diversity of languages among their cohort. The benefits include raising awareness of our plurilingual and multicultural communities in a very inclusive manner.
