Writing and Dyslexia 20th February 2024   

Writing can pose complex difficulties for the student with dyslexia. There are so many elements that have to be combined.  They have to think about what they want to say and arrange it.  They then need to find and spell the words needed to say it.  Handwriting, grammar and punctuation may pose additional difficulties. 

In this session we will look at the following

  • Understanding the question asked
  • Planning and structuring answers
  • Use of checklists
  • Choice of essays
  • Proof-reading


Memory and Note-taking and Dyslexia 12th March 2024

A key difficulty that students with dyslexia report is getting information into long-term memory.  Good notes can help with memory, but they may also have difficulty in making/taking notes.

In this session we will look at the following:

  • Why memory is a difficulty for students with dyslexia
  • Strategies to help with memory such as
    • Memory techniques
    • Note-taking
    • Mindmaps and Graphic Organisers
    • Visualisation
    • Mnemonics
